I was lucky to get involved with this programme. I was conceived by Jean-Baptist Lanaspese, a committed, passionate believer in the European identity, its history and shared cultures, and in the value of bringing a group of young adults from different countries together to work on a project that enriched those connections. He was also a bit bonkers.

I became the British representative of the European Heritage Campus and led projects for 5 years which I enjoyed immensely. Every summer I would lead a group of newly qualified young professionals and we would work for 3 weeks on a environmental, cultural heritage project. These projects took place in a range of countries and shared exeriences across the network. In early December each year the various project leaders would meet togehter in Avignon (where Jean Baptist was based). These were wonderful times, I loved travelling down to Avignon on the TGV , the sun always seemd to be shining, and I moved from a project leader to a member of the Scientific Committee ( the badly named but vital organisational hub of the programme. As a result I was invited to become the evaluator (the clipboard man) which involved travelling to each of the projects and to evaluate their success or failures and the monitor their spending and financial controls.
