Annex off Hull

Just sharing the kind of loony thought that usually requires several pints of beer in a good pub……and it is this.  If it’s becoming acceptable to  annex parts or the whole of other countries (Putin claims Crimera,  and large parts of eastern Ukraine,  and Trump claims Canada, Greenland, Panama,  Mexico, and the Gaza strip), then is the reverse acceptable….can a country decide to annex “off” parts of its land mass.   Could we just say goodbye to bits of the country we don’t really need anymore, Hull for instance, or Hartlepool. Instead of letting the people of the place, say for example the Falklands, self determine their future, do we let the people of the country as a whole decide to annex off places,regions, continents.  It’s the next logical step after devolution I suppose.
